Life is Short

I was stunned to find out today that my college roommate was killed in a car accident over the Christmas holidays. She was not yet 40, a beautiful, vivacious person with three children and a husband. She had had some chronic health problems and yet never let them get her down.

Two years ago, I learned that a guy I dated in college died suddenly from a massive heart attack. Again, not yet 40, an outgoing, gregarious person, also with three children and a wife.

It's sobering to think about.

I'm sad at their loss and for their families. I'm sad that two of the most alive and outgoing people I've ever known are so suddenly and tragically gone. They were two bright candles in this dark world and had a positive effect on so many people's lives.

Hug your loved ones today and treat every day as a gift from God.

Pet Peeves

2/6/06

After almost being side-swiped on the highway at a merge spot for the umptenth time, I feel compelled to start a "Pet Peeves" list....

Bad drivers!
  • Mergers who don't know the meaning of the word merge
  • Magoos -- those passive aggressive folks who think driving the speed limit or under in the left lane is a "safe" thing to do

Misc:

  • The reason everyone is so fat? Because they're too lazy to walk 2 feet to put their grocery cart in the designated spot. Instead they leave it for another car to run into or get scratched. Argh.
  • People who stop and stand at the bottom of an escalator and/or right in front of the elevator doors (file these folks as "Magoos" as well)

Okay, I feel a little better.
